Raw materials RMB creates new raw materials

The materials treated in our plants become raw materials or waste sent for recovery. Each product is analysed by accredited laboratories to ensure the quality required by steelworks, foundries and other users.

These are fractions selected from incoming waste as a result of mechanical treatment by crushing, screening and magnetic separation conducted at the RMB platform. During processing, iron is separated using electromagnets and cleaned of any inert material. The final product meets the product characteristics dictated by current legislation and is ready to be used by steelworks as End of Waste (EoW).

These materials include: Proler, crushed iron and stainless steel

This category includes aluminium, copper, lead, brass, zamak, zinc and alloys thereof. Such metals, recovered from crushed waste, metal packaging, bottom ash and demolition operations, are treated by screening, induced currents, optical selection, flotation and manual sorting. Aluminium fractions that pass the checks cease to be waste and become secondary raw materials, certified according to Regulation (EU) No. 333/2011.
RMB uses the aluminium recovered from the engines of end-of-life vehicles (ELV) and from the recycling of vehicles to produce RESAL, a secondary raw material that is chemically compliant with the EN AB 46000 alloy.

Plastic and rubber fractions are selected mechanically through crushing, screening, aeraulic separation, sorting and selection.
These materials originate from various types of incoming waste, such as end-of-life vehicles and their components, metal packaging, and mixed metal-containing waste.

Recovered plastic forms part of the waste recycling process and may be discontinued as waste.

Through a new thickening and calibration line, RMB produces materials suitable for energy recovery. This is the origin of REDPOL.

Mineral fractions are selected across all processing units of the plant and primarily originate from the processing cycles of contaminated soils and bottom ash. RMB uses these materials to produce Re.stone.

Waste from mechanical treatment

This type of waste includes the heterogeneous residual fractions resulting from recovery operations involving incoming waste. Following mechanical treatment, these materials cannot be refined further within the RMB platform. As a result, they are delivered to authorised external facilities for final recovery/disposal.

Sludge from process water treatment

Sludge originates from the treatment of water used for washing operations involving contaminated land, bottom ash and other types of waste. It is separated using a filter press connected to the water treatment plant and then disposed of in approved final plants, in accordance with current legislation.

Raw materials produced

Since 2015, RMB has been constantly evolving, driven by an increase in authorised volumes and by the synergy developed with related entities. It has become increasingly efficient and structured, optimising processes, strengthening industrial integration, and making its recovery chain ever more effective. As a result, it has increased the quantities of raw materials returned to the market, thereby fostering a circular economy model.

The use of recycled materials is not only a responsible choice for us, but also a concrete strategy to reduce our environmental impact and make the most of resources that are often overlooked.
